History/Background

Rakshasha (Sanskrit: राक्षस, rākṣasa: Pali: rakkhaso) is a supernatural being in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Rakshasas are also called "man-eaters" (nri-chakshas, kravyads). A female rakshasa is known as a rakshasi. A rakshasi in human form is a rakshesha. The terms asura and rakshasa are sometimes used interchangeably.
