Questions and Answers about Installation and Updating

Q. How can I tell what version of Final Fantasy XI I have installed?
A. You can determine your game version 3 different ways.
1. Log fully into the game. Then type the following command: /ver
2. Log into the game up to the menu screen where you can choose 'Select Character' / 'Create Character' / etc. You should see the version in the bottom corner of the screen.
3. Open PlayOnline and choose 'Check FIles' then select Final Fantasy XI from the list. To the right is the installed game version.

Q. I have the Steam version of the game, can I play with that?
A. Yes. You should not need to do any of the first post to get things going. Just simply update the game as needed in post 2. If you are unable to see FFXI in the check files list, go back to post 1 and start at step 3 (install custom patch). At this point you should be able to see FFXI in the check files list and continue the other steps as needed.

Q. I play on retail, can I play on Legion too?
A. Yes, as long as we are on the same client version as retail, you should be fine.

Q. Ashita or Windower? Which should I use?
A. Both will work on Legion. We recommend Ashita as I am the lead developer of it.

Q. I currently play on the <insert name here> private server, can I play here?
A. Yes. You just need to make sure that your client is up to date with our server. As well, you will need to make sure that your Ashita or Windower is up to date properly as well too. Some servers are extremely behind and use old files. These servers also enjoy lying to you about certain addons/plugins and other information. So be sure that you are properly updated.
